How can
I make my essay look organized?
Before you begin
writing your essay, make an outline of how you want your essay to
read. Once you have your outline, you will be able to systematically
organize your thoughts and your essay will flow in a logical manner.
Your essay must be neatly typed and printed on good quality paper.
In a heading on every page, ensure that your name, your proposed
degree and major, and the term that you are applying for are clearly
mentioned.
What
kind of topics will I need to write an essay on?
You may have
no choice as to your topic. But if you do have a choice on your
essay topic, then think about the type of paper that you are expected
to produce. For example, the topic "KENYA" is a general
one. If your objective is to write an overview, then this topic
is suitable. However, if your objective is to write a specific analysis,
then this topic is too general. You must narrow it to something
like "Politics in Kenya" or "Kenya's Culture".
How long
should my essay be?
Schools can
ask you to write an essay with a limited word length and some universities
may set no limits. The schools that do set a limit are very particular
that you adhere to their specific guidelines.
If I have
worked with a friend on my essays, will that be accepted?
No. By sharing
ideas, you may have exactly the same content. If your essays are
the same, in whole or in part, this would not be considered acceptable.
I have
heard that writing quotes in an essay will make it more attractive.
Should I do this?
Quotes can make
an essay attractive if they fit in with your content and flow. But
you must not insert a quote only because you what you have heard.
